In August we celebrate two whole years of 6pm Speakeasy! As part of our two year anniversary special we are bringing back our popular Poetry Swap Open Mic!

How does a Poetry Swap work? This is a full-length open mic session, with a twist! Bring your favourite poem along - whether by yourself, or another poet - and prepare to swap with someone else to read on the open mic! 

Please print your poem out for easy swaps. The open mic will commence at 6pm, however we recommend you arrive earlier than this - 5.30pm onwards - to get your poems in for swaps.

If you forget to print, be prepared to collaborate to send your poem to someone else on their device.
Participants' poems will be numbered and randomly allocated to other participants to read. This is a great opportunity to have fun reading someone else's piece, without the pressure of producing it yourself. Get familiar with other styles of work, and make poetic connections along the way.

You can also just choose to read your own poem on the open mic if you prefer!

The Poetry Swap Open Mic is followed by a feature from your MC and hostess, Jor Dansaren!

Jor Dansaren is a multi-discipline artist based in Ōtautahi/Christchurch. Her artistic skills range across spoken word, fire performance, burlesque, and cabaret. She is hostess and MC of the popular 6pm Speakeasy series, which offers the longest feature set opportunity in Ōtautahi.

Since first getting into the arts via fire spinning in 2014, Jor has taken her performing up and down the motu, from Dunedin Winter Solstice all the way up to Rhythm and Vines in Gisborne. She is regularly involved in bringing fire performance to Twisted Frequency festival in Golden Bay, and performs in various local events in and around Ōtautahi.

As an intersectional artist, Jor aims to empower and support LGBTQIA+, disabled, and BIPOC artists wherever possible.

Jor draws inspiration from Old Norse poetic sagas and folk music, the natural world, and her ever-deepening well of life experience.
