Event description

SCA Live Sessions is an ongoing concert series featuring the works of active Seattle Composers Alliance members, played by rotating lineups of world-class musicians. The concerts are hosted in our favorite Seattle venues and enjoyed by all.

The next Live Sessions concert will take place on Friday July 11, 2025 at The Fremont Abbey in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. This Live Sessions concert will be inspired by the contemplation and awe that comes from considering, worshiping or engaging with things that are bigger than ourselves, whether that be through the natural, the inter-personal, or the spiritual. The venue has a history of being a community service based church, a safe place to come and receive care beginning as early as 1914. Now, as a community arts venue, its stained glass windows and grand piano still have a sacred air to them. We will present pieces of music that share with our audience various perspectives of the human experiences of engaging in things beyond ourselves.

We will feauture solo pianist, Francesca Lyman, a versatile piano player with more than 20 years of experience performing and accompanying singers in the Seattle area. Her journey in classical piano began at Bennington College, where she cultivated a deep foundation in music, playing in string quartets and ensembles. Extending her repertoire, Francesca studied jazz piano and improvisation at the Music Conservatory of Westchester. While living in Washington, D.C. she regularly performed with a political theater troupe called the Public Interest Follies.

An advocate for community engagement through music, she has collaborated with local organizations to organize benefit festivals, to bring people together through the shared experience of live music. On the Eastside, Francesca has played a variety of venues, performing for private events such as weddings and celebrations at locations including Bastyr University. As a guitarist, too, she has performed in bands at festivals, wineries, and art openings, showcasing her love of many musical genres. Another way she finds joy in music is regularly contributing piano to a music therapy program.
