7 Ways To Help Your Teen Improve Their Mental Health

Event description

Concerns about teen mental health have taken center stage for good reason. The vast majority of teenagers are either struggling with mental health issues or know someone who is. Two questions I'm asked daily are: "How worried should I be? Is this normal teen behavior?"

If you have a child that is clearly struggling with anxiety and/or depression, you're likely trying to sort out how to balance pushing them towards healthy habits while still providing love and support. It can be a confusing balance to strike for sure.

The source of adolescent mental health issues is varied and often complex. This talk is not going to focus on blame or why. It's going to provide deeper understanding and practical solutions. You'll learn about what's going on inside your child's developing brain and nervous system.

Managing and overcoming mental health issues involves two core ingredients: Building resilience and improving the ability to give and receive authentic connection. Of course, these two qualities go hand-in-hand.

The approach I'll discuss is not based on tough love. It's also not a passive "just love them and they'll figure it out" view. Parenting teens, particularly now, can be really tricky. Expect to come away from this talk feeling less alone, more equipped, and better prepared to help your teen or tween.

And as serious as this topic is, the tone will be lighthearted and fun as well. In fact, many of us could benefit from taking a step back to appreciate how absurd this whole parenting thing is.

Your teen is welcome to attend with you because I think they'll find it interesting and helpful as well.

I'll be presenting for most of this but there will be plenty of time to answer your questions as well.

As a bonus: By registering, you will get a SIGNED COPY OF MY NEW BOOK, STAYING CONNECTED WITH YOUR TEEN!

The Historic Alberta House is in the middle of the Alberta Arts District which has lots of delicious food and treats. Consider grabbing an early dinner or ice cream beforehand.
