805 Hero Walk to Honor Fallen First Responders & Military Members
Event description
The Oxnard Police Community Foundation is hosting the 805 Hero Walk in cooperation with Carry the Load to honor fallen first responders and military members in Ventura County. You are invited to join us on April 29th for a 3-mile walk that will begin and end at Oxnard State Beach Park which is located at 1601 S. Harbor Blvd in Oxnard, California. Last year we had over 240 folks from public safety and from our community walking together to honor the fallen and this year we expect over 300 so come out and join us for this amazing FREE community event. This is event is for all fitness levels and will be at a leisurely pace.
The spirit of Carry the Load is "Who are you carrying?" and symbolizes carrying your fallen brother or sister. I am a United States Marine Corps Veteran and served Ventura County as a Police Officer for 29-years. I started this local event last year as a way to honor the fallen in our community and as a way to bring first responders and the community together. This year we have rebranded our walk as the 805 HERO WALK and my wife and I are proud to partner with The Oxnard Police Community Foundation and Carry the Load. Mark your calendars and bring out the family and your social pets to walk with us on April 29th beginning at 9am. We ask that all walkers register via this link and arrive by 8:45am. This year's event is being hosted by the Oxnard Police Community Foundation (OPCF) which is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (#31954) (EIN 30-1220927).
What to expect:
This is a fun walk that will be casual for all fitness levels. We will begin with some brief instructions about the route and why we are walking. We will then leave together and walk for about 3-miles which will take about 60-80 minutes to complete. During our walk we will visit Oxnard Fires Station 6 located at Peninsula and Channel Islands Blvd to recognize our local firefighters. This is a fun easy walk and we hope for a beautiful sunny morning in Oxnard.
Who will be walking:
This event is open to the public and it will be attended by police officers, deputy sheriffs, firefighters, paramedics, veterans, surviving family members and members of our community. Last year we had over 20-surviving surviving family members of first responders and military members who were killed in the line of duty as well as those who died at their own hands. This is a powerful event. Check out the video link below from last years walk.
This event is FREE but you can make a tax-deductible donation in honor of a first responder or military member you care about. Donations help to cover the cost of the storyboards that will be displayed. We will have bottled water and other beverages for all walkers.

Memorial Day is dedicated to honor and remember the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Although it is observed on the last Monday of May, Carry The Load’s Memorial May campaign takes place all month long to raise awareness and provide active ways to connect Americans to the sacrifices made by our military, veterans, first responders and their families.
Carry The Load inspires people to actively participate in its Memorial May events to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day.
