It gives us great pleasure to announce the forthcoming 8th International PacRim Breast & Prostate Cancer Meeting, which will take place from 17 to 21 August 2024 in Darwin, Australia. This is a highly sought after, premier international meeting on hormone-dependent cancers, with a specific focus on breast and prostate cancer. The meeting brings together leading scientists and clinicians and representatives of industry to collectively move the field forward and improve patient outcomes.

The 8th PacRim meeting will address “Recent advances and current challenges in breast and prostate cancer”. The meeting series is unique in leveraging new knowledge and advances in one disease to facilitate better outcomes in the other. The 2024 PacRim meeting will bring together ~150 outstanding scientists and clinicians from around the world with a special interest in translation and conducting innovative clinical trials with new agents for treating and or preventing breast and prostate cancer. Due to the high impact of this meeting series, we have secured seed funding from the Northern Territory Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade to secure the 8th PacRim meeting for Darwin.

Despite major advances in the management of breast and prostate cancers due to new targeted drugs and combinatorial treatments, too many women and men still die from these diseases. New, more effective, durable, and well tolerated therapeutic and preventive strategies are essential. The goal of PacRim meetings is to collectively move the field forward and improve patient outcomes by sharing the latest advances and new knowledge in a highly interactive format, with intent to initiate new research collaborations, translational studies, and clinical trials.

Meeting registration is heavily subsidised and includes:

5 nights premium accommodation at the 4-star DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Esplanade Darwin. There is also limited opportunity to upgrade to luxury resort style accommodation at the 4.5-star Mindil Beach Resort, Darwin’s only beachfront hotel
Conference participation including all lunches and networking events
Guided tour of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory
Three feature event dinners

There is a heavily subsidized registration fee to attend this meeting, which only covers a fraction of the costs but has become necessary due to pharma sponsorship being more difficult to secure post Covid. If we are successful raising funds, we will reimburse or use the surplus to seed the next PacRim meeting.

The DoubleTree by Hilton is located near downtown Darwin, overlooking the harbour and the Darwin Waterfront Precinct with many recreational and restaurant options. Additionally, there are limited opportunities to upgrade to luxury resort accommodation at Mindil Beach Resort. The Resort is located in picturesque tropical surroundings and is walkable to the conference venue. These rooms front a beautiful Lagoon pool, have luxurious touches, and extensive facilities. There is an AUD $400 partner supplement for accompanying guests. This includes all accommodation on a twin share basis, event dinners and a guided tour of the Museum and Art Gallery. If you are planning to bring additional family members please inform the administrative contact to discuss options.

It is a requirement for the subsidized registration that PacRim participants attend for the full duration of the meeting. This is essential to the success of the meeting. If you are unable to participate for the full duration of the meeting, please inform the administrative contact at the time of Registration. Otherwise, charges will be made for accommodation and meal costs incurred while you are not there. Please note we finalise the program (topic scene setting short talks, discussion chairpersons) closer to the meeting from those who have registered.

With everything from Asian food markets and crocodile encounters to breathtaking sunset cruises, Darwin is an easy going and exciting destination. Flanked by two stunning national parks, view exquisite landscapes, abundant wildlife and pristine river systems.

Our conference venue is located two kilometers north of Darwin city, the George Brown Botanic Gardens cover 42 hectares and are noted for their collections of north Australian and other tropical species.

LUXURY ACCOMMODATION UPGRADE - MINDIL BEACH RESORT

Located in the heart of the Mindil Beach Precinct on the Darwin Esplanade, approx. 12-14 min walk or 3 min drive to the conference venue. Rooms are spacious and feature exceptional views and touches of luxury throughout.

Deluxe rooms are located on levels 1-3, each with a private balcony and can be configured with one king bed, two king singles or one queen and one king single.

Superior spa rooms are located on the ground floor, each with a Japanese-inspired spa bath and a private patio offering spectacular garden and ocean views. Rooms can be configured with a king bed or two double beds.
