Description

This special anniversary concert will feature the world premiere of Gemma McGregor's composition inspired by the Ness of Brodgar in Orkney.

This piece is one of the Saltire Society’s To See Oursels commissions.

Gemma’s composition will employ replicas of ancient musical instruments and draw on research into Orcadian and Neolithic music. It will be performed by Gemma and a Glasgow-based string quartet.

The concert will also include a selection of traditional and contemporary music for the Clarsach by Elinor Evans and Stephanie Humphreys from the Clarsach Society, as well as a set of Scottish trad tunes performed by fiddler Ally Douglas. Mezzo Soprano Joyce Byrne will also perform a number of traditional Scottish songs, including some popular Burns pieces.
