Come and explore the beautiful craft of woodcarving.

Your teacher, Alma, is a professional cabinet maker and woodworker, and in this special 2 hour class she'll get you on the tools carving your very first piece!

Alma will run you through different tools for different functions and their techniques. You'll also learn about different types of wood.

During class you'll get all the know-how and guidance to design and carve a wooden spoon, and cheese knife, or even a sculpture.

What will we cover?

In this hands-on and informative class, we will:

  • Begin with a discussion on types of wood, a guide for the tools you will be using during class, and a general overview of various wooden carving techniques.
  • You will get the chance to practice the correct usage of hand tools and feel confident in making a piece of your choosing.
  • After you have the basic understanding required to carve different styles, Alma will lead you in using different carving knives to make piece you have designed.
  • After carving, you can use different hand tools and paper for sanding, and finish by oiling your piece.
  • At the end of the class, you will get to take home a one-of-a-kind hand-made object that will last a lifetime.

Who will be teaching? 

Alma (she/her) is an industrial designer making furniture, carving spoons and other timber projects in her workshop in Melbourne, Australia. 

More than ever before, she is eager to share her knowledge and experience with any timber enthusiasts out there.
