A classical Atlelier course with expression (2 day workshop)

Sean will share the wonderful world of Atlelier drawing. This workshop is for participants that have no or little experience in Atlelier drawing.
Sean will be taking participants on a journey of expressive drawing using the traditional atelier method dating back to the old masters. In this workshop we will cover principals of proportion, line and gesture, and tone. This is a hands-on practical workshop, with demonstrations to illustrate the various topics. These learned skills will assist in any art practice. We will be working with charcoal on paper which will give the opportunity for everyone to express their individual character.
Dates: Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd of November 2024
Level: suitable for beginners and intermediate
Class size: Maximum 8 participants
Tickets (for both days): Early bird members $200 (Early Bird ends 28/5/24), Members $220, Non-members $270

- Cartridge paper*
- Willow charcoal sticks*
- Rubber*
*There will be paper, charcoal and rubbers for sale at the studio on the day.
What materials will be supplied:
- Drawing easels
- Workspace
About your tutor:
Sean Hutton was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and settled in Australia as a young adult. His interest in art began from an early age, and he is particularly inspired by portraiture, landscape and allegorical themes. After winning the prestigious Dobell scholarship from the Julian Ashton Art School, he has gone on to be a finalist in numerous art prizes and the recipient of many awards. He has completed portrait commissions for many private collections and in 2021, his portrait of Philip Flood AO was acquired by the National Portrait Gallery of Australia for their permanent collection. Sean currently lives in Sydney and is a member of the Royal Art Society of NSW. He was a finalist in the 2022 Darling Portrait Prize in the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra ACT.
