Identity, Representation & Music Theatre – A Conversation with Deirdre Khoo

Presented by Small Ripples Theatre

What does it take to pursue a professional career in musical theatre as an Asian Australian performer?

Join acclaimed actor Deirdre Khoo 邱勵恩 (Six, Rocky Horror Picture Show, A Christmas Carol, Once) for an honest and engaging conversation about training, identity, and navigating the Australian theatre industry. Deirdre will reflect on her personal journey, share practical insights and training tips, and open up space for questions and discussion.

Deirdre was born and raised in Singapore. She moved to Australia in 2015 to pursue her dreams in the performing arts.

Deirdre trained as part of WAAPA's Music Theatre class of 2020, and graduated with skills in both Music Theatre and film & television. She has built an impressive portfolio upon graduation, with her most notable credits being Janet Weiss in the 50th Anniversary Tour of the Rocky Horror Show, Anne Boleyn in SIX Australia and Jess in Old Vic's A Christmas Carol.

This session is ideal for emerging artists, theatre students, and anyone passionate about diversity and representation in the arts.
