A Day at the Zoo in 22 Haiku - Book Launch Doc Drumheller
Description
Book Launch - A Day at the Zoo in 22 Haiku by Doc Drumheller
When the zoo gates open, who knows which wild and wondrous creature you will meet inside? A series of haiku describe these amazing animals as you travel through the twists and turns of the San Diego Zoo!
Poet Doc Drumheller visited the San Diego Zoo in 2015, and 2019, and composed more than 100 haiku inspired by the conservation work and interactions with the animals in the park.
A Day at the Zoo in 22 Haiku collects the published work from the original Zoo notebooks.
Each poem is illustrated by Hamish Reid, a digital artist, who has a flair for bringing animals to life with his unique and imaginative drawing style.
The selected work aims to expand vocabularies, improve literacy, and inspire children to write their own haiku, with an educational resource called: How You Can Write a Haiku Too.
Doc Drumheller has worked in award winning groups for theatre and music and has published 11 collections of poetry. His poems are translated into more than 20 languages. He is the editor and publisher of the New Zealand literary journal Catalyst and is the editor in chief of the World Congress of Poets literary journal Fuego. In 2024 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree, Doctor of Literature (D. Litt.), from the World Academy of Arts and Culture (UNESCO), for his contributions to literature through poetry.
