A Day in the Life of a Wattle

Learn about the life cycle of wattles and the incredible contributions they make to our world throughout their life....and death!

We'll start at the Weddin Community Native Nursery where Nursery staff will demonstrate the process of wattle propagation - from seed cleaning and tips for germination to how to care for seedlings and planting techniques.

Dr. Suzette Searle from the Wattle Day Association will give a talk titled 'Wattles - nature’s nitrogen fertilisers’ and mention some of the research she used to be involved in with CSIRO relating to wattle seed inoculation.

Along the way, we will also hear about all the other amazing qualities of wattles from 2024 Golden Wattle Award Winner, Mikla Lewis OAM.

There will be a selection of wattle-inspired stalls to browse through over lunch and then, after lunch, participants are invited to join Mikla on a wattle walk at her property 'Rosemont', Holy Camp Rd, Grenfell. Here we will learn about the many different species of wattle growing locally, their ecological roles in the landscape and on-farm value.

This is a free event but please register for catering purposes. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

Please BYO water bottle and sturdy, enclosed footwear, a hat and long pants are recommended for the walk.
