A day of weeding & weaving

Weeding followed by a weaving workshop with Emma Russell

at Westmeadows Indigenous and Community Garden

Help out with weeding at Aunty Jo Russell’s Bushfood & Fibre Garden in the morning.

And then after lunch, join Emma Russell for 'Woven Together' – a hands-on weaving session exploring creativity, culture, and connection through shared making. Participants will learn foundational weaving techniques with natural fibres.

At this time of year, the garden is full of bright yellow oxalis flowers – the garden’s most vibrant environmental weeds – and dye from oxalis will be used as part of Emma's workshop.

Program for the day:

11am to 1pm

More about Emma:

Emma is a Gamilaroi artist born and raised on Wurundjeri land. Her multidisciplinary practice celebrates culture, storytelling, and connection to Country through contemporary Indigenous art and community collaboration.
