An Evening of Stories & Change
Description
You are invited...
Join storyteller Leah Lamb and artist Mark Smith for a journey through stories of change—and share some of your own.
Change rarely arrives on schedule. It shows up as a move, a loss, an ending, a new beginning, or a calling that will not leave you alone.
Together with local storytellers Beth Wood and Kellen Klein, we'll share stories from our lives and from The Little Book of Change: A Storied Guide to Navigating Transitions, Loss, and New Beginnings.
This is a highly interactive community gathering where we'll explore what it means to be living in a quickly changing world—through story, song, conversation, reflection, and the creation of a community altar.
You don't need to come with a story to tell. We'll offer questions and prompts along the way. You are welcome to share, listen, reflect, or simply receive. No one is required to share.
This is a free community gathering.
Please arrive in time to settle in. We've designed the evening as a journey we'll experience together and will begin promptly at 6 PM.
Please bring something to feed and honor the spirit of change.
You might bring flowers, fruit or chocolates to eventually share with others; a photograph or relic of someone who has experienced a change; something representing a change you are moving through; or a stone, crystal, or other object you'd like to place on our community altar and take home with you.
Together, these offerings will become a living altar created by this particular community, on this particular evening, at this particular moment of change.
“The only way to make sense out of change
Is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.”
— Alan Watts
Copies of The Little Book of Change will be available for purchase and signing following the gathering.
Come Help Us Create an Altar for Change

At the center of our gathering, we will create an Altar for Change together.
Please bring offerings for our altar
For your consideration:
Items that represent changes you are tending
Images of people you love who have going through a change
Food that nourishes the altar (and us), such as fruit, chocolate, bite sized nibbles we can share
Feathers, crystals, stones, deities...things that will support us in our exploration of change.
Everything placed on the altar can go home with you.
You can also make a contribution to the altar that will travel from city to city.
Your Hosts

Leah Lamb
About Leah Lamb Leah Lamb is a storyteller, educator and founder of the School for Sacred Storytelling, where she teaches story as a tool for healing. Her work draws on years as a wilderness guide, a master's degree in social work and a lifelong exploration of how story shapes identity and creates change. She grew up in Vermont, lived in California for 20 years and now lives on Maui.

Mark Smith
Mark Smith is a resident of Sisters, and an artist whose work spans multiple mediums and explores the threads that connect people, stories and the world around them. After meeting Lamb, Smith came to see his archetype as "the thread," inspired by the mythological clew Ariadne gave Theseus to find his way through the labyrinth, and by the root of the word "clue." His illustrations for The Little Book of Change serve as visual clues, inviting readers to discover and weave their own lives of meaningful change.
