Darryl is an author, researcher, mentor and wildlife expert who has concentrated on trying to understand the relationships between people and the animals that live around us the cities of Australia.

About Professor Darryl Jones

As well as publishing over 200 scientific articles and a similar number of popular science pieces, he has written 8 books including a memoir (Curlews on Vulture Street) and most recently, the first field guide to the urban birds of Australia.

On Sunday 2 June, Darryl will be appearing at the Brisbane Writers Festival to present his new book: Getting to Know the Birds in Your Neighbourhood.

Darryl is aptly introduced by the Brisbane Writers’ Festival: “Not many people can be described as an ornithological superstar, but if anyone can be, it’s Darryl Jones. In his latest book, the twitcher extraordinaire introduces readers to the avian life populating suburban areas, offering tips for identifying and living in harmony with our feathered friends.”

HOWEVER, prior to the festival, on WEDNESDAY 29 MAY, we are privileged to have this unique opportunity to walk with Darryl in a small group, as he immerses us in a working demonstration of his book, and its philosophy of encouraging people to connect with nature, using birds as a key element.

This will be no ordinary bird walk!

Don’t miss this unique opportunity!

Please join us after the walk for a cuppa - bring a thermos for tea/coffee and a snack to share.

Bring a bottle of water, hat, mosquito repellent and sunscreen.

The park has toilets, water and shelter sheds with seating.

Getting to Know the Birds in Your Neighbourhood is now available from Avid Reader and most bookshops. While not essential, to add to the enrichment of the experience, bring along your copy or grab one before the day if you can.
