ABOUT JAZZMEIA HORN
Jazzmeia Horn was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, where her talents emerged and blossomed at an arts-focused high school. Horn has been compared to vocal jazz greats such as Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughan, and Nancy Wilson. She is a multi-award-winning vocalist, having collected the top prizes at the 2013 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and the 2015 Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Competition. Horn’s three albums A Social Call (2017), Love and Liberation (2019) and Dear Love (2021) were all nominated for Grammy Awards. Her latest studio album Messages comes out October 2024.
Messages represents a bold new chapter in Jazzmeia Horn’s illustrious career, delving deep into themes of family, love, sacrifice, and the pursuit of artistic freedom. Reflecting on her life and relationships as she tours the world, Horn infuses the album with a deeply personal perspective, balancing the joys and challenges of her journey. Horn’s decision to pare back her ensemble for this album allows her voice to shine even brighter, while still embracing the avant-garde spirit she exhibited in her previous work. The intimate yet expansive sound of Messages is a departure from the big band arrangements of 2021’s Dear Love, showcasing a more focused and introspective side of the artist.
DEM MOB
DEM MOB formed in the APY lands in the community of Pukatja. They are the first hip hop group from the region, and the first MC’s to rap in Pitjantjatjara.
