    Event description

    PURPOSE OF THE COMMUNITY FORUM

    • To provide evidence-based information that upgrading sports fields with natural turf is the best choice for players, the environment, and the community.
    • To provide evidence of the environmental, health, and safety dangers of plastic turf.
    • Present the facts about how the processes used by the Ku-ring-gai Council to proceed with the construction of a synthetic turf field at Norman lacked proper environmental assessments and thorough community consultation.
    • Provide an opportunity to ask the scientists, experts, and community members questions.
    • Outline recommendations and suggest actions to ensure proper Governance.

    EVENT DETAILS

The forum is free to the community. Doors will open at 7.00 pm. The forum will begin at 7.30 pm. We expect to be finished by 9.00 pm. Bring your own refreshments.

    WHY TOWN HALL

The event is being held in our Ku-ring-gai Town Hall. Town Halls are a way for locals to hear from community leaders on topics of interest, ask questions and put their views across. Our Town Hall has been rezoned for high-density housing. Let's bring back the concept of Town Halls to inform our community of things that affect them such as synthetic turf, housing strategies, protecting our environment, etc.

Bring a jacket with you. It could get cold.

    CODE OF CONDUCT

The issue of synthetic -v- natural turf fields can be a contentious topic. Come prepared to be direct and respectful.

    KIDS

This is a forum that would be great for kids over 10. There is lots of interesting science being presented on the night.

    VOLUNTEERS

The event is organised and paid for by volunteers who are passionate about the issue of ensuring our communities are plastic-free where there is a viable alternative. Any contribution is voluntary but appreciated.

We expect this event to be booked out so if you decide later on you cannot make it please cancel your tickets

Kristyn Haywood has written a thorough position paper on this topic which is excellent prereading for the community forum. Follow this link to access this paper. https://kristynhaywood4wahroonga.com/synthetic-turf-concerns
