Description

Step inside a reimagining of Don Dunstan’s iconic dining room for a unique live conversation series inspired by the spirit, intellect and hospitality of one of South Australia’s most influential leaders.

Held within the exhibition space, this intimate Thursday afternoon program will bring together invited guests from political, cultural, culinary and arts backgrounds to discuss themes connected to Don Dunstan’s life, legacy and enduring impact on South Australian society. Much like the lively gatherings Don himself was known for hosting, these discussions will explore ideas around politics, social change, creativity, culture and community in a relaxed and engaging setting.

Session One: Brian Parkes and Friends: Crafting a Creative Legacy

Join Brian Parkes CEO of JamFactory and special guests for a conversation exploring the remarkable story of JamFactory and its lasting impact on South Australia's creative industries. Established in 1973 in the former IXL jam processing factory on Payneham Road through the vision and support of Don Dunstan's government, JamFactory transformed opportunities for contemporary craft and design, providing artists and makers with a place to learn, create and thrive. The discussion will also reflect on Don Dunstan's later role as Chair from 1987–1990, the organisation's move to Morphett Street, and its evolution into one of Australia's leading centres for craft and design. For more than 50 years, JamFactory has launched the careers of generations of acclaimed artists while continuing to shape South Australia's reputation for excellence in craft and design.

Special guests: Stephen Bowers. Winnie Peltz AM. Jennifer Layther
