Weaving Circle - Skipton
Event description
Join me on Sunday 27th August for a Weaving Circle in the small meeting room at the Skipton Mechanics Hall.
In this 3 hour workshop you will learn all of the skills needed to create your very own woven basket or bowl using raffia and the coil weaving technique.
I am looking forward to sharing two different styles of coil or bundle weaving with you, and tThere will be a selection of brightly coloured and natural raffia available for you to use. You will have complete freedom to choose the style that works best for you, as well as the shape, dimensions and colour of your weaving.
I will guide you throughout the weaving process and be there to answer any technical questions as you allow your creativity to flow. There is no right or wrong in this workshop - only what is right for you!
Weaving for me is very intuitive; it requires us to trust the process. Unlike knitting or crochet, there is no pattern to follow. Vessels are created by feel. This is a great craft for dropping out of the monkey mind and into the creative flow.
The first hour of the workshop will be around introducing weaving techniques and materials as well as getting everyone started. The remaining two hours of the workshop will be allocated as weaving time, where we can all work on our projects, ask questions and share stories.
Herbal tea will be available as well as some simple gluten & dairy free snacks to keep us nourished as we work. Weaving together our stories individually and as a group. This is a place for crafting, community, conversation and creativity.
Everyone will go home with their own unique piece of art, as well as the skills and knowledge to be able to continue working on their basket at home should they wish.
Please bring a cushion so sit on as we will be sitting in circle on the floor. Chairs will be available for those who need them and accessible parking is available at the front of the hall.
Should you have any additional requirements, please let me know when booking and I will be glad to assist.
With love & gratitude,
Earthstar 🤍
