Located 100km south of Epernay, the Côte des Bars makes up for 20% of the region of Champagne and is famous for its high-quality Pinot Noir.

The terroir of the Côte des Bar is fascinating, benefiting from a warmer climate than the rest of Champagne, helping with the maturity of the grapes. The soils are essentially made of calcareous marks (same as Chablis) and are rich in stony limestone.

If the place of the Côte des Bar in the Champagne region has always been a controversial one, the region is now prized for its excellent Pinot Noir. Many Champagne Houses (e.g. Piper Heidsieck) have even made it their ‘je ne sais quoi’ to their fuller style champagnes.
