A Taste of Tonga
Event description
Learn to make some yummy dishes, popular in Tonga, then sit down and enjoy them with others!Â
We will get a taste of Tonga with our host Ana Taufa. Originally from ‘Uiha in Tonga, Ana moved to New Zealand in 2009. She has been living in Ashburton for the past 15 years.
Under Ana's guidance, we will make the traditional Tongan dish Lu, which combines coconut cream, taro leaves and meat- we'll have chicken and beef options (df, gf). We will also prepare steamed kumara to have alongside the Lu (df, v, gf).
For dessert we have a Pineapple Pie on the menu (vt) and we will also make 'Otai meleni (df, gf, v) - a delicious and refreshing drink made with watermelon and pineapple.
Come along and get some new recipe ideas, learn about another country and enjoy a delicious dinner together with others! Limited to 10 people so get in quick.
Please note this month's meal is not suitable for vegetarians and although the mains are gluten and dairy free the dessert is neither.Â
(v= vegan, vt= vegetarian, df= dairy free, gf= gluten free)
