Event description

The South Australian Wine Industry Association will host a selection of South Australian Wineries on the 13th May for A Taste of Wine History, a pop-up wine event, bringing together wine and history as a part of South Australia’s 2022 History Festival. Take a step back in time in the stunning Morlock Wing of State Library of South Australia and immerse yourself in the tastes and tales of Bec Hardy Wines, Golding Wines, Karrawatta, Kay Brothers, Liebichwein, Majella Wines, Schild Estate Wines and Woodstock Wines.

To accompany, a food offering is included in the ticket price of $20 (+ GST & booking fee). Additionally, a Great Wine Capital wine glass is yours to keep and two tasting tokens are allocated to the wineries in attendance for you to redeem. Additional wine is then available for purchase in wine flights as well as by ½ glass, glass or bottle. Two sessions will take place for this event, with the first session running 3pm to 5pm and the second 6pm to 8pm. Tickets are limited so getting in early is advised to avoid missing out.

As a very special treat, a lecture from historian Carolyn Spooner “Wonderful world of Wine”, will take place in the intermission between the two sessions. This is free but bookings are essential to secure your place.

About a “Wonderful World of Wine”

Winemaking is an integral part of the South Australian story, reflected in the State Library’s collections of historical and contemporary material. Our earliest wine related manuscript dates back to the 11th century and our oldest published book dates back to 1537. The State Library can trace the origins of the South Australian Wine Industry Association in our collections back to wine aficionado, chemist and booklover, Henry Watson in 1838. We will also discover handwritten archival diaries and letters, winery business records, graphic design folios, wine labels, menus and wine lists, oral history interviews and historic photographs. Quirky items include a Spanish grape treading boot, a pop-up wine book, Japanese manga books on wine, and books on winery dogs. Find out about the ongoing connection between Thomas Hardy & Sons, now Accolade Wines, and the State Library.

A Taste of Wine History is presented by the South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA), The State Library of South Australia and Adelaide a Great Wine Capital of the World.
