Tour the Donax Wastewater Treatment Facility
Description
What happens after water leaves our sinks, showers, washing machines, and toilets? Facility professionals will take participants through the wastewater treatment process and explain the science, technology, and day-to-day operations involved in treating Sanibel’s wastewater and protecting public health, water quality, and the island’s environment.
The tours are a collaborative educational effort involving the Island Water Association, City of Sanibel, Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF), and UF/IFAS Extension Lee County Master Gardener Volunteers.
Participants will hear directly from IWA professionals and learn how our drinking water is produced and delivered, as well as the infrastructure, technology, conservation, and stewardship required to provide Sanibel with a safe, reliable water supply.
We're also offering tours of the Island Water Association this year. Learn more here.
Space for both tours is limited to 10 participants, and advance registration is required. Closed-toe shoes are required for each facility.
