Event description

We‘re please to welcome the Wikipedia Walking Tour and Edit-a-thon for 2025. The two-part event will be running over two days, the walking tour on Saturday and the edit-a-thon on Sunday.

Women make up only 20% of biographies on Wikipedia, and in December 2022, there were just 9 women listed in the category ‘New Zealand women architects’. Since then, the New Zealand Women in Architecture WikiProject has been working hard to address this gender disparity and celebrate the incredible mahi by women and non-binary people in architecture.

This year, A+W NZ will be working alongside Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland Museum again to continue the Wikipedia walking tours and edit-a-thons.  Join us on the weekend of the 5th & 6th April to celebrate women in architecture.

These events are possible due to the generous sponsorship of Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand. Thank you also to Parnell Baths and Residium for their support.

Edit-a-thon

This edit-a-thon will utilise learnings and content from the walking tour and Auckland Museum’s library resources to enrich Wikipedia articles.

For the pool's centenary in 2014, the book Parnell Baths: a jewel in Auckland’s Crown was commissioned by Parnell Heritage and the Waitematā Local Board. Authors and historians Sue Monk and Joanna Boileau undertook the research project, detailing over 100 years of the pool's presence in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s community. Copies of Parnell Baths: a jewel in Auckland’s Crown and Elizabeth Cox’s Making Space will be available for reference in new and existing articles about women’s contributions in the field.

All skill levels welcome! A beginners’ tutorial will be run at 10:00am to teach the basics of Wikipedia.

Please bring your own device – we recommend a laptop.

To keep the collections safe there is no food or drink allowed in the Museum or Research Library, including coffee and food in bags. Closed water bottles are permitted.
