A weekend in Beechworth of Cats Claw weaving

A weekend dedicated to weaving 2 functional baskets from the invasive Cats Claw Vine.

We are going to transform this invasive species into a resource by learning a variety of techniques including Random Weave and the willow weaving techniques used in traditional and historic baskets from Zimmi's European lineage.

You will be guided, step by step through (at least) 10 different techniques that this material is perfectly suited to, so that you walk away with 2 beautiful baskets.

All materials supplied. Designed for beginners. and extra techniques for the more practiced students...Zimmi teaches to individual learning styles.

This workshop requires participants to attend both Saturday and Sunday

Participants have a choice to do some 'prep work' prior to class - or not. This 'prep work' involves giving the materials a haircut/ clean up and then soak.....or you can work with hairy material

Expected 'prep work' could range between 2-3 hours ......this will give for a more comfortable weave. ….it is actually quite a mediative process and doesnt require brainpower - just some time.  

Upon enrolment, Zimmi will be in contact to organise delivery /pick up of material.....if you chose to do the 'prep work"

Class times are: Sat 9:30 - 4pm & Sun 10 - 4pm

Zimmi has been sharing her extensive basketry skills for over 30years. She forages and prepares all the fibres from her local area.
