Fractured World, Uncertain Future: Islam, Justice, and Humanity in Turbulent Times
30–31 October 2025 | Griffith University, South Bank Campus, Brisbane, QLD

The Australian Association of Islamic and Muslim Studies (AAIMS) invites you to its Fifth National Conference — a premier gathering for scholars, researchers, educators, and professionals engaged in the study of Islam and Muslim societies in Australia and beyond.

This year’s theme reflects on the challenges of our turbulent times — from global crises and conflict to questions of justice, humanity, and coexistence. Through keynote lectures, panel discussions, and roundtables, participants will explore critical issues such as governance, interfaith relations, social cohesion, Islamophobia, migration, and human rights.

Why Attend?

  • Hear from keynote speaker Professor Hatem Bazian (University of California, Berkeley), an internationally renowned scholar on Islam, justice, and society.

  • Engage with cutting-edge research and fresh perspectives from diverse disciplines including sociology, history, anthropology, political science, theology, and more.

  • Connect with academics and professionals at all career stages through networking sessions and career development events.

  • Participate in thought-provoking roundtables, including Decolonising Sociology of Islam: Rethinking Islamic Epistemologies.

Who Should Attend?
This conference welcomes academics, students, community leaders, policymakers, and anyone interested in deepening their understanding of Islam and Muslim experiences in today’s world.

Registration Includes:

  • Access to all conference sessions

  • Morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea (both days)

  • Optional conference dinner on 30 October (separate ticket)

Don’t miss this opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue, share your research, and be part of a growing network dedicated to advancing Islamic and Muslim studies in Australia and internationally.
