AARP Open Day with Michael Milford, Director, QUT Centre for Robotics - Tour the Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct
Event description
Join us for our Open Day in November -Â to take a tour of the AARP, see the facilities, learn more about the broad range of industry applications and how you can utilise the site and connect with the robotics ecosystem.Â
We also have a special guest in attendance this month:Â Michael Milford, Director, QUT Centre for Robotics, and Fellow - Australian Academy for Technological Sciences and Engineering.
Professor Milford will be sharing his insights into building a robotics ecosystem, the current commercial state of robotics, and some key learnings from his years of research.
Agenda:
1.30pm: Arrival on site at the Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct
1.35pm: Welcome + Intro: CORE Innovation Hub
1.40pm: Presentation + Q&A with Michael Milford, Joint Director, QUT Centre for Robotics, and Fellow - Australian Academy for Technological Sciences and Engineering
2.15pm: Overview of the Precinct and opportunities to get involved
2.25pm: Networking and light refreshments

MEET PROFESSOR MICHAEL MILFORD
Professor Milford's research explores the boundary between robotics, neuroscience and computer vision. He is a multi-award winning educational entrepreneur focused on research that models the neural mechanisms in the brain underlying tasks like navigation and perception to develop new technologies in challenging application domains such as all-weather, anytime positioning for autonomous vehicles.
Professor Milford was named the top robotics researcher in Australia by citation impact by The Australian Research Magazine (2019) and was a top 3 finalist for the Australian Museum Eureka Prize for Outstanding Early Career Researcher (2016), the APEC ASPIRE Prize Finalist (2018) and was a finalist in the Reimagine Education Awards Finalist K12 Category. He has also collaborated with organizations including Harvard University, Boston University, Oxford University, MIT, Google Deepmind, Amazon, Ford, Intel, NVIDIA, Caterpillar, the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Professor Milford is the current Director of the QUT Centre for Robotics and Professor at the Queensland University of Technology.Â
