About Abdul-Rahman Abdullah:
Abdul-Rahman Abdullah is an established artist living and working on Wadjuk Nyungar country. Working primarily in sculpture and installation, his work explores the intersections of identity, culture and the natural world. In this masterclass, Abdul-Rahman will provide invaluable insights into his professional practice, unpack his experiences and career trajectory, and offer clear and practical guidance to attendees.

Whether you are an arts lover or an artist yourself, this experience is a special one-off artist talk featuring Abdul-Rahman Abdullah in conversation with Adelaide-based figurative realist sculptor Georgina Mills. Together, they’ll reflect on their unique collaboration through the Guildhouse Catapult Mentorship (2025), offering insight into mentorship, creative exchange, process, and artistic development.
This artist talk is a special opportunity for the South Australian visual arts community (artists, makers, creatives and supporters) to come together and celebrate the transformative impact of Guildhouse’s flagship Catapult Mentorship Program.

Guildhouse presents a full-day professional development masterclass with Abdul-Rahman Abdullah, unpacking the artist's professional practice and offering clear and practical guidance to attendees. HELD AT INPARILLA, THE WYATT TRUST, 161 FROME STREET ADELAIDE. Session 1: What I Do and Why I Do It A presentation unpacking the artist’s professional practice, cultural footprint, and conceptual drivers. - Key projects and thematic arcs - Reflections on long-term practice Session 2: Becoming Curatable A practical session exploring: - Approaches to being curated into ARIs, festivals, institutions, and biennales - Building relationships, networks, and a cultural footprint - Professional communication and expectations - Presence beyond the studio (boards, advisory roles, peer assessment) Session 3: Making It Work - Monetising Practice A deep dive into the realities of sustaining a creative career: - Funding, sales, licensing, fees, public programming - Parallel income streams - Understanding different presentation contexts - Case studies of successful and challenging projects Session 4: The Long Game A candid conversation about: - Balancing creative work with life and family - Scheduling, budgeting, tax, and long-term planning - Surviving without a salary See the program for timing.

In 2025, South Australian-based sculpture artist Georgina Mills undertook a Guildhouse Catapult Mentorship with Abdul-Rahman Abdullah. In this exclusive talk, Georgina and Abdul-Rahman will speak to their experiences working together throughout the mentorship, navigating a contemporary arts career, and the long-lasting impact of mentorship on artistic practice. HELD AT RADFORD AUDITORIUM, ART GALLERY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
Speakers
Abdul-Rahman Abdullah
Abdul-Rahman Abdullah (b. 1977) is an artist based on Binjerup Nyungar country, on a cattle property in the Peel region of Western Australia. Working primarily in sculpture and installation, he explores the intersections of identity, culture and the natural world. Living and working in an agricultural environment, his practice offers alternative perspectives across diverse, and often disparate communities.
Georgina Mills
Georgina is a sculptor whose practice explores the human condition through the representation of the figure. She has trained in contemporary sculpture locally at the Adelaide College of the Arts and Figurative Sculpture, internationally at The Florence Academy of Art, Italy. At The FAA, Georgina was awarded winter and spring scholarships (2017), Outstanding Performance in Écorché Sculpture (2017), Best Écorché Sculpture (2018) and the Forth Year Sculpture Residency (2019). Her work has been exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally, and is in collections worldwide.
