Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Workshop
Event description
During the Noongar Six Season of Djilba, the City of Vincent and Kambarang Services will be hosting a Cultural Awareness Training Workshop.
The purpose of the training is to promote, celebrate and acknowledge Noongar culture from the perspective of the local Noongar People. In addition, it aims to explore the journey of truth telling of Australia’s history to celebrate how far we have come as a nation. The session will finish with a healthy discussion on how we build a better tomorrow through strengthening relationships with Aboriginal people, families, elders, and communities.
Themes covered, but not limited to:
- Racism, ethnocentricity, and stereo types
- Traditional and contemporary Noongar culture, including creation story, family and kinships
- Impacts of contact, genocide, slavery, stolen generations, stolen wages
- Journey of Wellbeing, diversity, and identity
- Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal communities working together for a better tomorrow
