• Why is this workshop different

  Paul Herbert facilitates this workshop. He has completed all his ceremony while living on country and has extensive experience in forensic mental health, narrative therapy, and working with Aboriginal communities. His knowledge and unique skill set allows him to share Aboriginal culture in a way few others can. He will show you how to use Aboriginal ways of being to improve your work, enhance your practice, gain confidence, and get better results. All the skills and methods he shares have been tried and tested over many years. This workshop focuses on giving you knowledge, helping you understand, and providing you with the practical skills needed to improve your work with Aboriginal people, families, and communities. In reality, you can pay thousands for an Aboriginal focused course that is evidenced based, uses statistics and highlights historical facts but if you don't possess the confidence and ability to communicate effectively, incorporate cultural norms and protocols to build rapport through meaningful engagement, then you are at risk of being less effective and your attempt to improve outcomes can be lost in translation. This course will provide you with the knowledge, skills and ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people, families and the wider community.

  Paul has taught well over 2000 participants in the last 3 years which includes government workers, university students and the wider public. At the conclusion of each workshop participants are invited to complete a feedback form. The workshop scores approximately 9 out of 10 for improving cultural competence, enhancing confidence and learning new practical skills.
