Aboriginal Women's Business for ALL Women
Event description
This weekend retreat is to help you rejuvenate whilst being with other women and learning how women be together in the First nations traditions. Being a woman is important to the generation of life, the Earth, the land, relationships and all things of importance in this world. In Aboriginal culture women play significant and sacred roles in taking care of land, country, children, Law, ceremony and life - they teach all the children how to be, how to love, how to care for country, for Law, for spirit and for life. Come and learn how to do that and BE with it for your own wellbeing and enjoyment.
We will dance, sing, cook and share food together whilst we reflect on our own journey's as women in this country, in this world. We will talk about the importance of relationships, intimate, partner, friendships, family and children and how to do this in a way that is unconditionally loving and powerful.
We will meditate and contemplate whilst being in the bush land setting. We will create and share ceremony and ritual in the evening. We will create headbands and ceremonial objects that you can take with you - if there is time we will also teach you have to weave and how to paint in our way.
You will learn from the oral traditions that have been passed down for thousands of years and taught to us. We share these with you. Come and join in and enjoy.
On this retreat you will sleep in comfortable motel room type accomodation (or tents if you prefer) and there is a commercial kitchen in which we will share and cook food together as we do in community. Children from 0-18 years are welcome at discounted prices. All accomodation has double and single or queen beds in configurations that can hold families.
FIRDA facilitators will be our national convenor Dr Tjanara Goreng Goreng and our Program Manager Kerrie Shepherd who have been curating and co-creating these retreats since 1996 together. We are Kamilaroi from NSW and Wakka Wakka from Queensland living on Ngunnawal and Dharug lands. We have permission of the Elder women from their country to share and care in respect for their own ancient wisdom during this weekend. All First Nations women are invited to attend and scholarships are provided by the generosity of others if you cannot afford to pay. Concessions are available to women on benefits or low wages, please discuss via email to us.
The retreat is to be held at Tombarra Accomodation near Mongarlowe outside of Braidwood NSW from Friday 18 June 6pm to Sunday 20th June 2pm. We will be by the beautiful Mongarlowe River with a viewing platform and platypus that live nearby. Buy your tickets here.
