Event description

Join us for a morning with author Howard Gray, in his presentation of the stories and research captured in his new title ‘Abrolhos. This stunning book captures for the first time the remarkable history of this remote Australian archipelago, famous for its Batavia and Zeewijk Dutch shipwrecks and so much more, as well as the unique ecological environment created in a tropical-temperate overlap zone, reefs bathed in both warm and cold currents, beautiful coral reefs and astonishing seabird nesting colonies, the Houtman Abrolhos Islands themselves remnants of the mainland, shaped by staggering changes in sea level.

Dr. Howard Gray, a well-known local, has contributed ample research and publications - often relating to the natural and human history of prominent sites and events that took place in and around the Midwest. His talk will delve into both stories of the past and research on the current natural state of the islands and the surrounding coast. Come along to this marvellous presentation and join us for some light refreshments after.
