Exhibition Opening | Abstraction: Systems, Signs, Syntheses
Event description
Join us to celebrate the opening of Abstraction: Systems, Signs, Syntheses. The exhibition will be officially launched at 2.30pm by Tony Oates, Director, ANU Drill Hall Gallery.
Curated by artist Tony Mighell, Abstraction: Systems, Signs, Syntheses celebrates expressive freedom through drawing, calligraphy, and material exploration.
The exhibition features abstract paintings and works on paper by eight major historical and contemporary artists from Australia and USA: Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Peter Maloney, Brice Marden, Terry Winters, Lottie Consalvo, Newell Harry, Patrick Hartigan, and Matt Bromhead.
Spanning three decades, the earliest works were created in Central Australia and New York and the most recent in studios in Newcastle and Sydney. Connecting them is the primacy of small gestures, sensitivity to the poetics of materials, and a certain lyricism.
