About this play:
First performed in 1965 at the Royal Court Theatre, Edward Bond’s Saved marked a turning point in British theatrical history. The play’s raw portrayal of working-class life, emotional disconnection, and systemic violence stunned audiences and sparked a national controversy.
Bond’s work made it impossible to ignore the social realities that many plays had previously avoided—poverty, alienation, disenfranchised youth, and the failure of institutions to protect the vulnerable.
