About this play:
Top Girls is a landmark feminist play by Caryl Churchill that explores the cost of success for women in a patriarchal society. The play famously opens with a surreal dinner party featuring historical and mythical women, then shifts to the story of Marlene, a career-driven woman who has sacrificed personal relationships for professional advancement. Through fragmented structure and overlapping dialogue, Churchill critiques Thatcher-era individualism and examines the complex intersections of gender, class, and ambition.
