    Event description

Introducing our brand new program - Academy Live!

Once a month, come along for this open mic event! Members of our WestWords Academy, alumni and current, will be testing their new poetry and prose on the open mic! Each event will feature a special guest musician and featured guest writer. Members of the public are welcome to come along and hear Western Sydney's rising artists. Drinks and finger food provided.

    June featured performers:
Featured Poet: Brittany Searle is a writer and slam poet from Campbelltown, and one of the 2021 recipients of the WestWords Emerging Writers Fellowship. Having worked as a journalist, Brittany believes that being from Western Sydney gives writers a unique perspective on life and storytelling. A passionate advocate for Western Sydney voices, she is currently working on a project telling the story of her life in Western Sydney, mental health and becoming a mother.

Featured Musician: Belle Butler is a Blue Mountains based writer, musician and photographer. Her short fiction has been published in numerous Australian literary journals and her novel manuscript, ‘White Pigeon’, has received multiple awards. Most recently Belle was awarded a WestWords Emerging Writers Fellowship for ‘White Pigeon’. She is currently revising her manuscript with the help of her mentor, Delia Falconer.

This event is proudly supported by the City of Parramatta.
