Event description

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - An introduction for adults on the spectrum and parents/carers:

In Focus Family Workshop

Can we ever be truly happy? Will our lives always be this hard? What can we realistically do about it? This workshop aims to give you an overview of what Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is and how it can support you, or those you care for..

An experienced ACT therapist with many years’ experience working with people on the spectrum will cover, and provide opportunities to explore:

  • Mindfulness exercises;
  • Discuss new concepts;
  • Experiments and sharing;
  • New strategies; and
  • Self care.

This session is for adults who are on the spectrum and parents or carers of children or adults on the spectrum, and is aimed at people who are interested in attending the ACT therapeutic group. The workshop may also be of interest for people who would like more information, and a better understanding of ACT in general.

    Workshop Definitions:

    General Workshops are designed to give participants a better understanding of autism.  They present a broad range of effective strategies that participants can use to improve their practice when working with individuals on the spectrum. These workshops are suited to participants who have not attended previous Autism SA workshops.

    In Focus Workshops are designed for participants who have a good general knowledge and understanding of autism. These sessions are for those wanting to enhance their professional practice by developing skills to support individuals in specific areas relating to autism. It is recommended that participants first attend a General Workshop prior to attending an In Focus Workshop.

    Autism SA has a highly experienced and diverse training team which includes consultants, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and facilitators who have extensive experience in working with individuals on the autism spectrum in a range of settings.
