The Accidental Counsellor course aims to provide essential counselling skills and knowledge to individuals who may find themselves in a supportive role for others, even though they aren't professional counsellors.

It is not uncommon for Student Leaders and UNSA staff to find themselves in this position, so equipping yourself with these skills can make all the difference.

The 3-hour course is facilitated by professional staff from the University Counselling team. The course covers active listening, providing emotional support, recognising signs of distress, and referring individuals to appropriate professional help. It's designed to equip individuals with the tools to provide initial support and guide them on when and how to refer someone to a mental health professional.

Location - Nelson Room (US332), Shortland Building, Callaghan.
