If you were too unwell and unable to communicate your preferences for healthcare or personal care to others, who would speak on your behalf? And more importantly, what medical decisions would you want them to make?

Advance care planning involves planning for your future health care. It enables you to make some decisions about the health care you would or would not like to receive if you become seriously ill and are unable to communicate your preferences or make treatment decisions.

In November 2022 there was an amendment to the Guardianship and Administration Act. The changes will provide greater legal force for Advance Care Directives. The change will enable Advance Care Directives to be upheld in any setting where reasonable.

Who to give your directive to

This event aims to provide both health professionals and interested community members with the correct information to understand the new legislation and to answer any questions you may have.
