Affirmative Consent Essentials
Build your knowledge and confidence to have important conversations that support young people to practice affirmative consent
Young people, and the key adults that support them, need the knowledge, skills and confidence to have conversations about consent and practice affirmative consent.
Affirmative Consent Essentials is an interactive training workshop designed for people who work with young people (15–25 years) in youth and community settings. The training is an opportunity to learn more about Victoria's affirmative consent laws and to build confidence to have conversations about consent with young people.
Affirmative Consent Essentials training incorporates learnings and resources from WHIN’s youth-led affirmative consent project, Taking ACtion: Affirmative consent in the North.
Who should attend?
People who work with young people in youth and community services including youth workers, community engagement officers, support and outreach workers.
Why attend?
You’ll leave this workshop with greater understanding of Victoria’s affirmative consent laws and the confidence to have conversations about consent with young people in community settings. Conversations about consent build a culture of consent – a powerful tool for preventing sexual and gender-based violence.

Places are limited. Registration for the training is essential.
FAQs
- I work in a school, can I register?
Yes, school-based workers are able to attend. While the content is relevant to teachers and school staff, the training is not designed to guide implementation of RRRR curriculum materials or other consent education programs.

No other Affirmative Consent Essentials training dates are currently scheduled. Please email training@whin.org.au to register your interest.

- What is the Taking ACtion Project?
Taking ACtion is a youth-led affirmative consent pilot project delivered by WHIN from 2022–2025. The project aims to improve knowledge and attitudes about affirmative consent so that young people are empowered to ensure their sexual experiences are safe, pleasurable, respectful and consensual.
