ACMD Research Seminar - March

Following the strong response to our inaugural seminar with Professor Mark Cook AO, we’re pleased to invite you to the second session in the ACMD Research Seminar Series:

The Role of the Clinician in Digital Transformation featuring Associate Professor Matthew Read FRACS, MBBS, PhD, Oesophago-Gastric, Bariatric & General Surgeon.

A/Prof Read brings a rare combination of frontline surgical practice, translational research and digital health leadership. Internationally trained in minimally invasive and robotic surgery (including fellowship work at University Medical Center Utrecht), he is also a clinician-researcher whose PhD through University of Melbourne and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre focused on advanced preclinical models for oesophageal cancer.

Alongside his clinical roles at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, Matthew has actively led digital innovation in surgery - including developing software to modernise surgical workflows - and currently contributes to hospital-wide digital strategy as a clinical informatics leader. He has also recently been appointed as Adjunct Professor in AI at the Australian Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Medical Innovation (ACAMI) at La Trobe University.

In this session, Matthew will share practical insights on:

• Why clinicians must play a central role in digital transformation

• Turning real clinical problems into technology-enabled solutions

• Bridging surgery, data and systems to improve patient outcomes

• What it really takes to move from innovation ideas to operational impact

Open to clinicians, researchers, students, innovators and anyone interested in the future of medical research and healthcare delivery.
