Bat call analysis training - where we learn how to analysis the bat echolocation calls recorded on our bat detectors.

Bats aren't the only creature that produces ultrasonic sounds. There are many other animals, including other mammals and insects that produce these sounds. Many mechanical and manmade devices, such as wind turbines and electric cars, can also produce ultrasonic sounds. All these ultrasonic noises can be picked up on our bat detectors and occasionally can be confused as a bat.

This is the second bat call analysis training, where we'll learn about some of these other non-bat, confusing ultrasonic sounds, how to identify them and tell them apart from our bat calls.

This is a live online workshop. The recording will be available for 1 week following the live session. There will also be time for questions - anyone that can't attend the live session that pays to view the recording can send their questions in for answering either before or after the workshop.

About the trainer:

Neil Middleton, has been lead author on many books including, "Social Calls of the Bats of Britain and Ireland", "Sound Identification of Terrestrial Mammals of Britain and Ireland" and "Is that A Bat?", which explores non-bat sounds recorded on bat detectors encountered during sound analyses.

Neil is the founder of Batability and the Certificate of Bat Acoustics Analysis, which is an online training platform focusing on bat acoustic training, as well as other ecology topics. He is also the host of the podcast, "Talking Bat".

We're really lucky to have Neil join us for not just one, but two workshops.

This is the second of two workshops that Neil will be giving. The first workshop is on bat call fundamentals and will take place on 23rd April from 7-9pm.

Workshop Fee

The workshop fee is covering the presenter fees and cost of running the workshop. If there is any money left it will be used towards establishing the WA Bat Network (we're hoping to get some banners and educational materials created so we can run bat conservation stalls).
