Acquisition Fund | Mosman Art Gallery
Event description
The Mosman Art Gallery Acquisition Fund launched on the 10th anniversary of The Balnaves Gift in 2022 and was founded to continue the inspiring legacy of the late Neil Balnaves AO. Since the success of our first three acquisitions by Imants Tillers, Thea Anamara Perkins and Arthur Streeton we continue to welcome donations towards this fund indefinitely. All contributions make possible future acquisitions and commissions for the Mosman Art Collection.
We are delighted to announce that the latest Acquisition Fund work for Mosman Art Collection, Arthur Streeton's charming pencil and watercolour sketch Sydney from Mosman is currently undergoing conservation and reframing and will be in the exhibition Beyond the Heads: Views of Middle Harbour. Painted circa 1914 during one of Streeton's intermittent visits to Sydney from London, the work depicts the view from little Sirius Point looking across to Cremorne Point and Robertson’s lighthouse (built 1909). The work pairs well with the Gallery’s Sydney Harbour by Streeton – reflecting the growing city in the distance and larger ferries that were servicing the population of Sydney’s coastal suburbs.
Help continue to support the commissioning of contemporary artists and the acquisition of important historic works to continue building an art collection of national significance.
