"Healthier mothers and babies through malaria control" with Dr Holger Unger.

Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax are important causes of maternal anaemia and adverse pregnancy outcomes such stillbirth and low birth weight in endemic settings. There is emerging evidence that adverse effects of maternal infection extend to childhood. Over the last decade, research conducted in the Asia Pacific region, where half of all pregnancies at risk of malaria occur, has generated key insights into the burden, impacts, and strategies to control malaria in pregnancy. These findings and emerging therapeutic and preventative tools critically inform the design of novel approaches to prevention of malaria in pregnancy in the Asia-Pacific, as current strategies face critical implementation gaps, are threatened by drug resistance, and fail to provide adequate protection in early pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Recordings will be available on the ACREME website.
