Event description

We are delighted that you will be joining us for the first of our 2024 youth hui. We are six students from Hillmorton High School and St Andrew's College who have come together to design this event for students across Ōtautahi Christchurch and Waitaha Canterbury.

The theme of this first hui is Tūrangawaewae, Belonging. What does this mean to us as young people? How might we create a city where all people can truly feel a sense of belonging through exploration of culture and identity?

We have some great speakers to inspire us, and there's time to connect with students from across the region as we explore these gritty conversations.

Elements of this event include:

  • Youth led workshops
  • Keynote from Kate Dewes, New Zealand peace activist, anti-nuclear campaigner, and academic
  • Panel discussions with questions from the floor
  • Time to connect with young people across the region as they engage in gritty conversations to action the compassion.

Come prepared to have some deeper and maybe uncomfortable conversations in a safe space. Ōtautahi Christchurch and Waitaha Canterbury has its flaws, lets acknowledge these and look at what change we, as a group of passionate young people from across the region, want to explore and activate. Teachers, you will also get the opportunity to connect and discuss your role in supporting young people as activators of positive change.

These kōrero or conversations are too important to leave to chance and we're really excited to invite you to join us.

This is the first of two student events this year:

  • Term 3 - 29 July - Tūrangawaewae, Belonging, 9.00-12.30pm
  • Term 3 - 23 August - Peace and Compassion,  9.00-3.00pm

Come with your enthusiasm and openness, you don't need to bring any books or devices to work from.

Morning tea will be provided.

Dress code: no school uniforms please
