Become an Active Bystander at your local sports club
Event description
Learn the skills to be an active bystander and prevent gender-based violence through sport!
In team environments, clubrooms, and social settings, we often hear offhand comments, jokes, or attitudes that don’t sit right — but speaking up can feel tough, especially in tight-knit sporting communities.
Join us:
This interactive workshop is designed for players, coaches, volunteers, family members and club leaders. Help build a club where everyone feels welcome, respected and safe.
Representatives from all sporting codes welcome!
During this workshop, you will:
- Build your understanding of the drivers of gender-based violence
- Recognise harmful language and its impact
- Learn confident and constructive ways to intervene
- Practice standing up for others and being an ‘active bystander’
Who is running the workshop:
The workshop will be delivered by Trent Larkman from Everyday Actions. Trent is a safety and inclusion educator with extensive experience in violence prevention and response, having worked across diverse settings in Australia and abroad—including workplaces, sporting clubs, and universities.
Funded through a Preventing Violence Through Sport Grant from the Victorian Government, this workshop is proudly presented by Holstep Health with support from Merri-bek City Council on the land of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin nation. We pay our respect to Elders past and present and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.
