Ideally, you can attend each session for the group bonding, integrity, and depth of trust and support. If you cannot attend a session, you will need to continue to read and do the exercises as scheduled. It would be most useful for the group dynamics if you interact with the members to maintain connection, sense of belonging and practice the exercises in the book.

I anticipate the first gathering being about 2-hours long to go through some of the introductions, agreements, and overview. The following gatherings afterward should be 1.5 to 2-hours max.

A little about Active Hope and what to expect:
The group book journey has three main elements to help us read the book at a deeper level and strengthen our ability to engage in Active Hope practices as a way of contributing to constructive change:

Reading the Active Hope book. (Please see the website page for more info and an e-book link: https://www.greensong.info/twtr-activehope )
A weekly online interactive gathering, where we discuss the book and engage in exercises from it.
Participants practice the exercises in between gatherings. (From past groups feedback was to practice with a close friend or someone in the group) I participate also in this group while facilitating, at times I will take more of a facilitating role holding the space for us to participate fully and openly.

Expect an email with a calendar invite following every gathering with an overview of the previous gathering content and resources, and the following weeks' reading and preparation. The agenda will be similar in each week and sessions include discussions, quotes or poems, practices, and presentations similar to what we would do if we were meeting face-to-face. You will receive all the information you need to facilitate a group like this or start participating in The Work That Reconnects.

SESSION 1 PREPARATION:

Read the Introduction plus Chapter 1 on Three Stories of Our Time and Chapter 2 on Trusting the Spiral.
Read through these questions to assist with the discussion process and notice which ones speak to you; you are not expected to answer each question and it is not a test!

What is your understanding of the term “IndustrialGrowth Society” and how do you see it operating in the world?
How have you experienced the impacts of the IndustrialGrowth Society in your own life and community?
What is your vision of a Life-Sustaining Society?
How do you see each of the “three stories” playing out in your life, community, and the world around you?
List ‘Holding actions’ for the Great Turning have you participated in or supported in some way. (pg 28-)
How have you participated in or supported the second and third dimensions of the Great Turning? (pg 29-)
What emotional responses arise from considering each of the 3 stories?
