ActNow Theatre Community Workshop Intensive: Intersecting Identities: A Theatre-Making Workshop for the Global Majority

Join ActNow Theatre Associate Artist Valerie Berry for a multidisciplinary theatre-making workshop exploring the many ways we carry, express and negotiate our intersecting identities. Through themes of community, joy, memory, stereotypes, assumptions and imagined futures, participants will explore belonging, complexity and the spaces between different parts of ourselves.

Expect a supportive environment for creative expression, collaboration and a rich exchange of ideas and practice.

Please note: you must be a person of the Global Majority (Person of Colour) and be able to attend both sessions to be eligible for this workshop.

Join us for this free event designed for community members aged 18+, with a small donation suggested from allies to support the program.

All donations $2 and over are fully tax-deductible.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Valerie Berry is a theatre maker specialising in collaborative, cross-cultural and interdisciplinary performance. Her work spans directing, writing, acting and facilitation across Australia and Asia, including Double Delicious, Future World Hypothesis, Swallowand The Folding Wife, as well as projects for the National Theatre of Parramatta and Contemporary Asian Australian Performance.

Since 2005, Valerie has collaborated with Manila-based Anino Shadowplay Collective and Paschal Daantos Berry on projects including The Folding Wife, Within and Without, Arkipelago, Arkipelago2: Intima-sea and This here.land.

Valerie is an Associate Artist at ActNow Theatre, where she works as a coordinator, facilitator, mentor and collaborator, and serves as Artistic Coordinator of the Cultural Leaders program. In 2026, she is undertaking a year-long CreateSA Fellowship focused on cultural leadership.
