Event description

How prepared are you for extreme weather, heatwaves or other climate related impacts?

Do you want to share your ideas about climate risks and opportunities with us?

In early 2024 we did preliminary community engagement and heard your climate change concerns. Roughly 80% of respondents said they are "extremely concerned or very concerned" about climate change impacts like extreme weather, heatwaves, drought, and biodiversity loss.

In the coming months Council is working with community members and stakeholders to identify safety risks and actions to respond to events like storms, fires, droughts, power outages, and heatwaves.

We’re also asking about the things we can do to respond to our changing climate—such as ways to improve our built and natural environments to stay cooler in summer.

This will inform Banyule's first Climate Adaptation Plan.

Join us as we brainstorm:

  • a list of climate-related risks and opportunities

  • a collection of stories that reflect our lived-experiences of climate change, extreme weather, and ideas for the future

You may also share your stories and thoughts on Shaping Banyule from 15 September to 15 October 2025 on shaping.banyule.vic.gov.au/ClimateResponse/Adaptation

We will also provide an opportunity to review the Community Climate Action Plan (CAP), which was first adopted in 2020.

Registration required. Light catering will be provided.
