"Affinity Quartet is committed to a practice which celebrates our name - redefining what it means to be a string quartet in the 21st century through the synergy of our four members. Our purpose is to celebrate the beauty, intimacy and renewal of the string quartet form."

Earning international acclaim as the first Australian string quartet to win major prizes in four of the world’s top string quartet competitions has been momentous for Affinity Quartet: Third Prize at the 2022 Wigmore Hall International Competition (UK); Second Prizes at the 2023 Mozart International (Austria) and the 2023 Bad Tölz International (Germany); and the Grand Prize, First Prize, and Audience Prize at the 2023 Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition.
On a recurring invitation basis, Affinity Quartet is based in Madrid for part of each year under the guidance of Alban Berg Quartet founder Günter Pichler. Affinity Quartet’s dual presence in Australia and Europe is unique. The quartet’s 2024 performances include Spain, the UK and Germany; and in Australia, Melbourne, Regional Victoria, Sydney, Regional NSW, Canberra , Hobart , and Perth . Also in 2024, with support from Musica Viva Australia, Affinity Quartet premières a new string quartet by Alice Chance (AU).
Founded in 2015 at the Australian National Academy of Music, Affinity Quartet’s aim was to give audiences an ‘inside experience of classical chamber music’. Affinity Quartet continues to champion this mission through our relationships in the Australian community, our performing and commissioning of new Australian works for string quartet. Past première performances include works by Brett Dean (AU), Darrin Archer (AU), Matt Laing (AU), Tom Misson (AU), Jack Symonds (AU) and Sally Beamish (UK).
