Internationally-acclaimed clarinettist Adrian Cox has dedicated his career to preserving and pushing the boundaries of early jazz, earning praise for his masterful technique, deep historical knowledge, and infectious energy on stage.

Adrian is a leading authority on New Orleans music, bringing an authentic and electrifying voice to the idiom. His unrivalled feel and virtuosity for the music he plays have led to concerts with the biggest names in jazz including Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra both in London and New York. 

Adrian is currently touring with his exceptional Trio featuring the New Zealand-born guitarist Honey Boulton and New York-based French bassist Alex Gilson, a true world-class ensemble that leaves audiences spellbound. 2026 has seen the Trio presenting concerts all over the UK, Europe, Australia & New Zealand.

Sidney Bechet is the most revered saxophonist to come out of New Orleans, a forerunner of jazz music known for his stentorian sound and stirring musicality. With “The Wonderful World Of Bechet”, the Adrian Cox Trio explores Bechet’s impact on the world of music, through his contributions as a clarinettist, composer (Si Tu Vois Ma Mère) and recording artist (Summertime).

Steamin' Jazz Club at the Steam and Whistle

Steamin’ is Cheltenham’s newest jazz club, hosted by a collaboration of experienced musicians from across the spectrum of jazz. It aims to offer monthly gigs, taking place at The Steam and Whistle, near Cheltenham Spa railway station.

The club is hosted at the Steam and Whistle, a beautiful Victorian pub opposite Cheltenham spa station (GL51 8NW). The pub has a purpose-built venue space that hosts a variety of music, comedy and creative arts, including Dom Joly’s monthly SpeakeaZy.

Food

The pub has quickly become known for its amazing food. Come early and enjoy the best pizza in town, and stay on for drinks after the gig.

Travel and parking

Situated close to Cheltenham spa railway station, the venue is well served by public transport. The nearest car park is at the station.

Return trains:

Cheltenham to Stroud run up to 10.15pm.

Cheltenham to Bristol Temple Meads run up to 11pm.
